Started my In-Camp Training on Tuesday. Well, techically this might be considered the first because last year ICT was range (shooting the M16) and there wasn't a FXT (Field Exercise Training). Had lectures on Tuesday (Rules of Armed Conflict and Rules on Engagement, etc). So far there has been quite a few highlight for me. #1 - using the SAR21 (SAF "new weapon") for the first time. #2 - renewed my CPR certification, and #3 done a live intravenous infusion. The last time that I actually done a live IV on a person is actually when I was in the Basic Medic Course. Not sure of the Medic Specialist course requires us to do that. That's 10 years ago exactly.
Last year's mates I met were not around in this in-camp. Most have posted out to their parent unit (where they originally from), and the remaining ones did not join the unit for the ICT as they have gone for a seperate one in April this year. I was posted to the medical company within the same unit, I guess because I just downgraded my PES status.
Made some new friends this year. They are all newbies to the med coy like me. Aw is an economics graduate from NUS working in Bank of East Asia as an operations analyst. Lee is a mechanical engineering graduate from NTU, currently doing a Masters in Human Factors Engineering (part-time) and working at Molex as a product engineer. Teo, an accounting graduate from NTU who is working in Ernst & Young as a tax associate. Hope to get to know them better over the course of the ICT.
I was blessed because met a few kind souls already. First is Yit Wee, a guy who I regularly have to call up if there is a mobilisation briefing. He sent me to Kranji Camp on Monday. Second is Ang, a mate I met in the coy who offered to keep my SBO (skeletal battle order) equipment and helmet in his car. Got a rave BMW Z3! And last is this guy (didn't catch his name) who offered me his vein (every medic's desired) when I can't find any "good" veins for the IV. I got to know him tomorrow. Anyway these episodes kind of teach me a lesson on never to judge a person before even knowing him/her. Well, what I mean is these people may not be the most desirable people to befriend, however they can be pretty kind and generous to offer help when you least expected it. For that, I am truly grateful.
Been feeling "heaty" lately. For the last two nights, I actually got a fever and headache. I took early rest and pop a panadol on each night and I feel very well the next morning. So went ahead to the camp and not report sick. The heatiness is back again, and hope the fever don't recur. Anyway I know the remedy, and be sure to see a doctor if it persist through the week.
Eric's big day is on Friday. Tentatively, it looks good for me to go. So keeping my finger's crossed. Not gonna miss one of my best buddy wedding!
I hope I have more exciting/fun updates the next time.
